From principle to practice

UDL proposes designing learning with the diversity of pupils in mind from the start, rather than adapting afterwards for a few. The difficulty is practical: preparing several versions of every activity for every profile does not fit into a teacher’s timetable.

NeurekaLab does this part automatically: based on each pupil’s profile, it generates and adjusts activities throughout the school year.

The same activity, presented differently

Personalising is not just changing the level. The worksheet also changes how it is presented according to the pupil’s cognitive profile. We switch on a range of supports in five areas:

  • attention,
  • decoding,
  • comprehension,
  • structure,
  • access to content.

We adapt to each pupil’s individual needs without labelling them: everyone works together, in the same classroom, and nobody is singled out.

More than one way to work

Each pupil can work in the app, on paper worksheets or with both. On paper, the worksheet is marked from a photo and tracking continues just the same. The screen is a resource, not a requirement.

Knowing the whole group

UDL starts with knowing every pupil well. The universal assessment gives each pupil aged 5 to 12 a profile in reading, maths, sustained attention and working memory, and shows the teacher which supports to switch on for each one.
